Knowing the video series of “Learn Romanian With Nico”, which are incredibly good and truly make learning fun, I had ordered this book with no small expectations to be honest. I was hoping that it would somehow be able to continue to fun part of learning, as I go for acquiring a much deeper understanding of the language, than one can get from the videos. And you know what? The book even exceeded my expectations! In her unique style, Nico managed to put together – in my opinion – a new reference for the quality language books. When you look at it, you’ll understand why it has been a long way coming. Lots of little humorous drawings accompany almost every page, always picking up the context of either the lessons part or that of the exercises. Speaking of the exercises: somehow Nico managed to put exercises together that are both practically useful and at the same time, also the exercise contents themselves are funny and always in some way really entertaining. But there is more too her book than just the way she has put her unique style into it. It’s also structured very nicely. There is this part in the beginning that’s pages over pages of vocabulary, that turns out to be a really practical choice of nouns, verbs, etc.. that you’ll most likely find yourself needing first, as you practice the language. And a nice extra is, that throughout the book, EVERY word has that one letter printed in bold, which you’ll have to stress in speech. One other thing that I haven’t found anywhere else, at least not with this detail, is the section that helps you to understand the patterns of verb conjugation, bringing some order into the chaos. Same goes for the well explained basic rules that allow you to take an educated guess on which of the three variants of gender apply to the nouns – which is very helpful when you happen to not know the true gender of a word that you are just about to use. All the sections about the various aspects of grammar eventually become increasingly important, and I cannot imagine a better way of presenting the Romanian grammar – especially to English speakers – , than it’s done in Nico’s book. Romanian certainly isn’t an easy language, but this book makes it as easy for me as it gets. This is likely not going to be the only resource that you will use on your journey of truly learning Romanian – it makes sense to complement it with other resources such as a dictionary and certainly Nico’s video lesson and other things – but in my collection of learning resources, this turned out to be the most important one, and I’ll highly, highly recommend buying it.

In 2015-16 I spent six months living and working in Bucharest, I also got to explore some of the wonderful Carpathian mountains – following in the footsteps of Ioan Stoenica. However, I didn’t get to appreciate some things as well as I might have as I found the Romanian language a barrier, in some places at least. Even though I speak a bit of French and Italian I found the Romanian language ‘difficult’. I just wish I had discovered your excellent You Tube channel before my visit. When I return to Romania, later this year, I will be better prepared with what I’ve learned from your videos and your book. I’m looking forward to trying out my new language skills on an unsuspecting population.

About the book – I work as an editor and so I can really appreciate the attention to detail in all you do, in your book and your You Tube videos. The book looks so good, and is so very well presented and produced for a self-published one. More than that, it’s great to have a text that is serious, very well thought out and structured, and so well written on the difficult (for me at least) subject of Romanian grammar. After only a week I have already picked up on many useful things that compliment the videos and other simpler books that I have.

I would especially recommend this book to people wanting to get a fuller grasp of how the Romanian language ‘works’, it gives the reader an understanding well beyond the standard type of language publication. Also, having a physical book in your hands works a lot better for me than something electronic based, it allows you to flip back and fore very quickly when you need a memory-jog.

It’s so wonderful to see someone putting so much effort and passion into an educational project. Best wishes for the future, Nico, and I hope you have great success with this project and whatever others you have planned.

I learn Romanian for pleasure. I follow her videos in youtube also as additional material to other old books.
I am myself a professional teacher in another language, I have also seen many many courses in a big number of languages.
Talent by nature. Extreemly good course. Unique approach. If there is some award for best new language course design, Nico deserves it.
The way the texts are compiled is original, the vocabulary is organized in a perfect way.
    Nico is a real Teacher.

Nico’s pedagogical materials for studying Romanian are wonderful! Her text is clear, well-organized, and thematically very interesting and coherent. I find that her book goes along excellently with her YouTube videos and that I have an excellent primer available for working on all modes of language proficiency. In particular, Nico has a knack for explaining complex grammar and structural points clearly, and her communicative and proficiency-based approach conforms well to what I as a French-language educator in French and North American contexts have learned in my studies and teaching.

I have to commend Nico on her amazing communication and customer service. She sent me a copy of her book that I ordered toward the middle or end of January promptly, but it never arrived and presumably got lost in the mail. When I let her know this only a little more than a week ago, she asked me what my preference was and then sent a new copy the next day, which arrived from Europe through the German Postal Office to the East Coast of the US in 6 days. She clearly must have paid a good deal more money to cover the shipping costs that included a tracking number, and insisted that she cover these costs even though the first book’s getting lost was not her fault or under her control. I cannot recommend Nico more for her distinct professionalism and excellent care for her customers and their language needs. She is a pleasure to work with and to learn from. Mulțumesc mult!
